The Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated environmental professional to join our Installations Regulatory Team in Hertfordshire and North London.

In this pivotal role, you will lead on regulatory compliance for hazardous waste and waste classification across a range of industrial sectors. These include chemical manufacturing, incineration, metals, textiles, and refineries.

As the hazardous waste technical lead, you will be at the forefront of protecting communities and the environment from harm. Your work will help contribute to a cleaner, greener and healthier environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the team’s hazardous waste regulatory work.
  • Contribute to and help deliver the hazardous waste regime delivery plan.
  • Review and assess waste classification reports to ensure they meet regulatory guidance and standards.
  • Monitor and report on performance, supporting continuous improvement.
  • Provide expert advice to colleagues and stakeholders to ensure compliance and drive positive environmental outcomes

The successful candidate will complete a technical development framework and will be supported throughout by a dedicated mentor.

This role requires regular attendance in the office, including a weekly team day, to support learning, collaboration, and development.

About the Team

You’ll join a collaborative and skilled Installations team, working flexibly across the area to regulate a variety of permitted sites. We’re committed to reducing environmental harm and improving compliance across our sectors.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Flexibility to travel for operational site visits – (this will involve being within 2 hours of travel distance from Welwyn Garden City).
  • Ability to review technical waste assessments and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Work experience in the process industries or waste management.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide technical leadership
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of WM3.

Desirable:

  • Educated to degree level (e.g. Scientific or Environmental).
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively to meet shared goals.

Incident Response Commitment

All our officers take part in incident response duties. You’ll receive full training and support, including flexible working arrangements to ensure this commitment is manageable for you. This may attract an additional payment.
